The Brazil nut (Bertholletia excelsa) is a South American tree of Lecythidaceae family. It is a large tree, reaching 30–45 metres tall and 1–2 metres trunk diameter, an example of the biggest trees in the Amazonian jungle. It may live 500 years or more and often reaches 1,000 years.
